DESCRIPTION

There are several ways to get to the Emilio Frey Hut, this trail is named “Slovenian Trail”. It is a little more strenuous than the one starting at the Catedral ski resort as this one starts lower down at the lake level.

The trailhead is well marked next to the Park Rangers Office and the first few hundred meters are shared with the trail heading to the Elves Waterfall. At the beginning the trail goes through a dense Coihue forest with a little incline, then goes down a little and contours around the lake. It crosses the La Menta stream at an area called the “Burned down” where you can still see remnants of a fire from 95’ and 96’.

For the first 2 hours there is low vegetation and little shade. Then there is a junction, the left goes on and down to Playa Muñoz, take a right, the trail goes steadily up for around 3 hours in the forest. Soon it will join in with the trail coming from Catedral ski resort, then cross the Van Titter creek, then you go past the Piedritas Hut (not an authorized camping area) to finally reach the beautiful granite cirque next to the Emilio Frey Hut.

You must have a confirmed reservation to camp next or stay at the hut.

From the hut you can descend the same way, or take the trail to the ( 63 ) Catedral ski resort or connect with the trail heading  to the Catedral Ski Resort o bien conectar con el San Martin Hut.

To improve the trekking experience, it is recommended to contact a Mountain Guide authorized by the AAGM (Argentine Association of Mountain Guides)
